Five Tips for Healthy Holiday Eating
Whether you just started an exercise program or are a seasoned workout pro, the Holidays can test even the strongest resolutions. Every table seems loaded with fatty, high-caloric fare. Here are a few tips for embracing the season of feasting without expanding your waistline.
1. Hold the Cream
Avoid cream-based dishes, butter, and breaded or battered foods, and take the dressings, gravies and sauces on the side so you can control portions.
2. Trim the Fat
When shopping, opt for skinless cuts of meat, fish and poultry and remove any excess fat before cooking.
3. Cut the Oil
Prepare foods in non-stick pans with no extra cooking fat added, or cook them in canola or olive oil.
4. Fire the Fryer
Avoid frying (especially deep-frying!) foods whenever possible. Bake, broil, boil, steam or roast instead.
5. Sink the Drinks
Most sweet Holiday beverages are high in calories. Plus, alcohol impairs judgement and could spur a dessert-table binge! So be sure to enjoy your honey-rum pumpkin spice latte in moderation.
Of course, regular exercise is one of the best ways to tame holiday stress and prevent weight gain. Feel your best this season by signing up for a FREE week at Welcyon.
